!!! UNSUPPORTED LINE BREAK IN HEADER !!!

Kinja'd!!!

The stunning concept took this year's Detroit Auto Show by storm, and almost to the moment that it was unveiled, rumors started stirring that it would be the next-generation Supra. Now those rumors can come to a rest as it has been confirmed that the FT-1 will be produced as the next great sports car by the Japanese automaker.

But that's not all, as an entry-level coupe is rumored to also be in the works that will be slotted under the Scion FR-S and will be priced at around $16,000. The entry-level sports car's development is rumored to be headed by Tetsuya Tada, the GT86s chief engineer. Sources say that both next-generation coupes will form the base for a whole range of sports cars that will start joining Toyota's lineup starting in 2016. As for what will be under the hood of the entry-level coupe, Toyota is exploring a 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain and is hoping for a 2017 debut.

That would be the best thing to happen to Toyota. And, at that price, sports car lovers everywhere. Hope it comes to fruition.

I'm skeptical of the entry-level car, because either:

1. It's a FWD hybrid coupe that isn't sporty at all (like the Prius C)
2. It doesn't end up at $16k.

"Furthermore, according to Motoring.co.au the Big T’s following the Supra up with another sports car, an entry-level model slotting below the Scion FR-S. Expected to be powered by a 1.5-liter hybrid system, it will reportedly be priced at an almost unbelievable $16,000 when it goes on sale in 2017."

Or...we could just convince Honda to turbo the CR-Z, put the goddamn back seats back in it, and call it a day, since I love how it looks, and unless this new car looks a lot more like an FRGTBRZ than the FT-1 (which I think is ugly as sin), then I'd still prefer the Honda, as far as faux-sporty hybrids are concerned.

I doubt it's bovine feces. More than likely it's equine feces.

I can only pray it's rear-drive. We need more rear-drive cars at that $15,000 dollar-ish price point, instead of $25,000 and up.

Who would argue against a $16,000 dollar rear-drive coupe with a manual transmission, crank windows, and a stereo that only consisted of four to six speaker and an aux jack? I wouldn't.

I don't disagree with you, but I don't know how they'll accomplish RWD/hybrid for under $20k, let alone as low as $16k. Not trying to be a complete downer, though, because if Toyota does prove me wrong, I will bow down to them and never mistrust them again.

This is supremely hideous, and thus more fitting of a Lexus branded car.

Except the Scion TC is FWD. Its basically a Toyota Celica.

I don't understand the reason for creating a $100k Toyota Supra. Unless they mean the concept will be turned into a $50-$80k sports car then good.

Yes but i was replying to Ravey, about the whole concept of which the entry level sports car toyota is making. Apart from that back it'll be hybrid and not sporty, I heard the TC is pretty sport to drive. I know I would rather pick one up than a civic cause i'm more of a toyota guy than Honda.

For someone that own the FRS, there is no way they sell a sports car for 16k. First it will eat the frs sales, and 2nd the frs is already so freaking slow
